Commitment permeates all areas of the brand. Both in house and out in the world.
Commitment to tradition. Commitment to materials, reducing waste. Commitment from the wearer to the garment.
“The majority of clothing on the market is static and limited in its versatility when styling. Our brand aims to tackle this by creating a collection of pieces which are able to be worn in a variety of different ways, giving customers several styling options.
By giving the consumer the option of multiple looks in one garment, we are tackling the issue of overconsumption, as instead of having to buy multiple garments from an unsustainable brand, our customers can get dozens of looks from a handful of our pieces.
As a starting point we each looked at our own local history and heritages to draw inspiration from, combining different aspects of our own cultures to create something new. All of the fabric used to create these garments are either recycled or dead stock form companies. In Addition, all of the dyes used are natural, indigo and logwood to be specific.
Accessibility is incredibly important for our brand and so many of our looks feature very simple and accessible fastenings such as snap fastenings, drawstrings with toggle stoppers and large buttons. We spoke with one of our print tutors, Rita, who is a person with an amputation and she gave us insight on which fastenings she finds are most accessible. Furthermore, the ability to wear our garments in multiple ways allows all types of bodies to wear out clothes, including people with physical disabilities.”

Modularity is at the core of Vicis to ensure inclusivity and commitment. Using a top to bottom approach where the function follows the form of the garment, when the garment is worn relies on how it is worn. How it is worn is dependent on the body, as opposed to the inverse.
Vicis hopes to honour traditional methods of craft as well as draw from the design team’s individual backgrounds to inspire a diverse design process.
